A family-run operation, Domaine de Font-Sane sold all their grapes to top negociants for several generations, until Gilbert Peysson made the decision to bottle his own wine in the 1970s. The estate's 15 hectares of old vines are steep terraces cut into the rock high above the pretty village of Gigondas. The Peysson's (Gilbert's daughter Veronique is now in charge) wines are excellent examples of the appellation, with classic Gigondas power and spice offering an excellent alternative to Chateuneuf-du-Pape. In blind tastings among the growers of Gigondas, Font-Sane is often chosen as the best of the appellation. The 2007 Gigondas is powerful, ripe, deep, dark, with plenty of sweet fruit and garrigue feels and flavors. Larger, riper, and more imposing than the beloved '06. Goes with the vintage. Made of 72% Grenache, 23% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre.
